In December of 2011 the Mayor and Executive Board of the city of Aalst awarded the project "Delivery and installation of a camera surveillance system and complementary applications for the City of Aalst" to Tein Telecom.
With this project, the City of Aalst wishes to invest in camera surveillance for the local police zone. The project concerns the placing of 32 new cameras which, together with the 15 existing cameras, will be integrated into a new CCTV management platform. All image information will be sent towards the new control room of the police force via a fiberglass network (still to be installed). Infrastructure works (digging, placement of poles, fiberglass blowing, ...) will be handled by subcontractor Armamast.

There are 4 defined zones in which in total 29 outdoor cameras are to be installed and, in addition, another 3 indoor cameras are to be installed at the City Hall. The areas and camera locations were chosen by the occurrence of one or several forms of nuisance. Furthermore, these areas are those in which the most important events in the City of Aalst, be they small or large, take place. The camera surveillance system also aims to be able to provide statistical information, such as "people counting", amongst others.
