In order to execute the surveillance and control of the tunnels in accordance with the European Directive, a Tunnel Centre will be developed.
This project includes the development of a central command center in close collaboration with the Flemish Traffic Centre, with as main goal the improvement of security within the tunnels.
Tein Telecom, as subcontractor of Fabricom, will focus mainly on video surveillance (CCTV and AID), network, command & control center and voice communications. Quite a number of technologies will be renewed for the modernization of the tunnels.
A smoother traffic flow and a more stable handling of traffic in the case of traffic congestion are the main goals for the dynamic traffic management that is to be developed in the tunnels. Start of the works : 2012 with the Craeybeckx tunnel in Antwerp.
